In January 2011, the National Gallery of Victoria will present a major exhibition of the work of internationally renowned sculptor Ron Mueck.Ron Mueck is a London based photo-realist artist whose parents were toy makers. He was conducting children's television shows for 15 years. After that he started working on special effects for films in Labyrinth, a 1986 fantasy epic starring David Bowie.These mixed-media works have goosebumps. They also have blemishes, wrinkles and moles. Their stomachs droop, their skin is splotchy and their muscles sag.Ron Mueck’s work is accessible to everyone - with children, teenagers, young and old all likely to take some joy in some aspect of the sculptures.Mueck went on to represent Australia at the 2001 Venice Biennale, capturing worldwide attention for his 4.5 metre sculpture, Crouching Boy.Mueck also represented Australia at the 2001 Venice Biennale.
